OBITUARY.
MRS. AGNES LAIRD.
The death took place. recent Iv at Wanganui of Mrs. Agnes Laird at tho ago of 91 years. Mrs. Laird was born near Ayr, Scotland, in 1339, and was married to Mr. Alexander Laird in 1861. With her husband she came to the Dominion in the ship Sherburne in April, 1866, settling first of all in New Plymouth Ten years later Mrs. Laird left for Wanganui, and their names are associated with tho early procress of tho settlement down to the present day Mrs. Laird was an energetic Presbvferian worker and was respected by all sections of die community. When Mrs. Laird arrived in New Plymouth tho Maori wars were just qt their close and many hardships had to be faced Mrs. Laird's husband predeceased her some years ago. The remaining members of tho family are:—Messn. A. S. Laird, Taumaranui; G. L. Laird, Auckland; D. P. Laird, Waikato; A. R. Laird. Wanganui; K. G. Laird, Glasgow, Scotland; Mrs. G. Robertsofv Hamilton: Mrs. G. Alexander, Waverley; Mrs. M. Jacobs, Wairarapa: Mrs. C. G. Bloore, Gisbornc; and Miss Laird, Wanganui.
