NO MASEFIELD ODE.
The now Toefc Laureate, Mr. John Masefield, has missed his first great chance of writing a national ode. Ho will not immortalise Miss Amy Johnson in verso.
With the world singing Amy's praises on her great flight to Australia, with honours showering upon her from every side, what moro fitting climax in tho opinion of somo people could thero he to her triumphs than that tho Foot Laureate should signalise his appointmont by commemorating her feat? Tho editor of tho Sunday Chronicle telegraphed to Mr. Masefield asking if he would undertake to writo a commemorative ode. This was his reply: "Much regret cannot possibly writo as requested."
