WAIKATO NOTES.

PENDAVIES' TRIP CANCELLED

star comet again in work. [by telegrafh.—-own correspondent.] HAMILTON. Monday. Although he has been working well and gave a particularly pleasing display over the steeplcchaso course one morning last week, if. lias boon decided to abandon the trip with Pendnvicß to the Grand National meeting. Thero is nothing at all wrong with tho jumper, but it was considered that he was not yet sufficiently forward to undertake a race like the Grand National Steeplechase. Pendavies should improve in condition oach week now and will be a force to be reckoned with in jumping events early in tho new season.

Star Comet is a regular attendant at To Rapa, but nothing of a strenuous nature is being asked of him and ho is being restricted to pace work. Under tho enro of A. P. Brady ho has built up well since the trouble that came against him immediately prior to tho Great Northern meeting. Star Comet now appears to bo doing well and will be in racing trim again beforo very long.

Pompeius, another member of Brady's string, is also being given light work on the tracks, but he will be shortly asked for iomelliing a littlo more strenuous in view of tho Pakuranga meeting next month. Pompeius is in good trim and will not require a great amount of fast work to bring him to his best. Beau Irish Resumes. Royal Visitor is being kept going in view of the early spring meetings. This horse, who has already displayed fair form, has done well sinco joining Brady's team and may prove a useful stake-earner in tho new term.

Beau Irish, tho rising three-year-old colt by Beaufort, is growing iuto a commanding horse and might develop into a good one later on. He showed a lot of pace in his few two-year-old engagements. Beau Irish renowed hiß acquaintance with the tracks during the week, but, like tho other members of Brady's team, is being restricted to light work.

Two promising juveniles, a gelding by Australian Sun and a filly by Illumination, nro being prepared for the new season at To Rapa, and they will probably make their debut early in tho spring. Red Day's Programme. Red Day, whom F. Tutclicn inteuds taking to Awapuni next week, continues to show improvement in her work, which mainly consists of gallops on tho hill. Sho is to be qualified for hunting events, and, with this object in view, made her first appearance witii the Waikato Hounds last week Red Day limdo a very satisfactory showing and should turn out decidedly useful in this class. As far as her chances at Awapuni aro concerned, her second to Mountain Guide at the Waipa meeting makes them appear very bright.

Ruby Dawn, who will accompany hor stable mate, Red Day, to Awapuni, is pTobably better now than nfc any previous stage of her career. Tutchen ha 3 hor going along well in her work, and, as sho was just outside the money at the To Awamutu meeting, she might run prominently in tho hack flat events at the Manawatu fixture.

NOTES FROM EVERYWHERE.

TRACK AND STABLE GOSSIP.

Starshooter's namo was omitted from tho telegraphed list of acceptors for tho Winter Cup published on Saturday. Starshooter is weighted at 9.2.

When Nightmarch inakes his reappearance in Australia in the spring ho will again have the services of R. Reed, who has been associated with him in most of his notable successes. Reed is booked to leave Wellington for Sydney on August S, when A. McAulay will atao leave with Nightmarch and several other horses.

Comparatively fow horses have succeeded in winning the "Winter Cup at lliccarlon with over 10.0, and the greatest weight carried by a winner of tho race 13 10.12, under which Vladimir won in 1903, and Kromlin in 1905. This year's top-weight, Toxeuma, has 11.5, so that it will bo recognised that he is confronted with a stiff task. Howorcr, Toxeuma is particularly good at a mile and he might prove equal to tho occasion.

Mr. G. M. Carrie's two-year-old Pomp (by Absurd—Pomyris), who has not. raced since being injured when returning from Sydney last spring, is reported to bo making good progress in his work and it is expected that he will take his place in the field for the "Wanganui Guineas in September. Pomp ran second in the Breeders' Plate at Randwick and only for his mishap would probably have been one of tho best two-year-olds of tho season.

FEILDING JOCKEY CLUB.

PROFIT OF £1645 FOR YEAR.

The report of the Feilding Jockey Club, to be presented at the annual meeting this week, states that a profit of £1645 was made on the year's working. Mr. Leslie Gorton, who has been ft member of the club for 33 years, is the only nominee for tho office of president in succession to Mr. A. E. Sandford, who now resides in Hamilton. VICTORY FOR FULL MEASURE.

MAIDEN RACE AT MOOREFiELD.

Tho Pre.is Association cablegram received from Sydney in connection with the racing at Moorefield on Saturday stated that King March was the only New Zealand horse to win at. the meeting but private advice has been received by Mr. J. Paterson that his two-year-old Full Measure was successful in tho first division of tho Maidon Race (six furlongs J. Fall Measure u a chestnut gelding by Surveyor from Thurence and was sent across to Sydney about two months ago to bo trained by tho ex-New Zealand trainer R. O'Donnell. This was Full Measure's first win and ho is reported to havo started at doublcy-figure odds.
