FARMING POSSIBILITIES.
I Sir, —In a recent issue of the Heeaui you published the returns from Mr. W. Stokes' farm for this Inst season. Undoubtedly 3041b. of butter-lat per acre for . a 50-acre farm is very good, but I believe that even those returns can be bettered on smaller farms. Throughout Taranaki, Hauraki Plains and the Waikato there are farms doing just as well, anil in some cases better, and it is a pity that these facts were riot "better known o> financiers. Mr. W. Stokes has his 50 acres divided into 14 paddocks, well sheltered, and uses 6c\vt.. of fertiliser to thu acre. These facts should be carefully noted if anyone hopes to do so well, hi would do much to boost our export and to help relieve • unemployment if ih». available skilled dairy tanners were! financed on to small farms by privatu finance or Government help. .Iu every district in New Zealand there are highly qualified farmers, who, through lack of capital, aro an economic loss to this country. A wage and percentage of lae but-ter-fat returns would be suiiukeit inducement for these farmer:; to tin their very best. In every city and t-wn <;f any consequence in New Zealand there are retiled farmers with a lifetime of experience behind them These men repr^ 1 '' 1 " every district in New Zealand and if approached by the right authority wonlu come to tho aid of thk country in Mi:-> time of depression. They c< >:;;■! advi.io t private financiers and tin- Government and also act as examiners oi those who applied for financial assistance. Mr. Stokes' returns slu.v: a)» lit £2O per act" per annum and 1 believe that on si! smaller holdings these returns couln ' M) bettered by 20 to .50 per con'., surely a sufficient inducement i 1 capit;'!. Small Moldings.
