VALUE OF ENSILAGE.
INCREASE IN POPULARITY. The benefit of ensilage made last spring is now being felt by farmers throughout tho province. Although this fodder is regularly made on practically every farm in tho Waikato, the change from hay is only now taking placo in tho districts adjacent to tho city, including Franklin and Manukau counties. Great interest was taken by farmers in the display of various types of ensilage which the Agricultural Department made at tho Winter Exhibition. Tho two chief advantages, which are now being more widely realised, are that the saving of grass for ensilage enables the work to bo" rlono at the most suitable time, independent of the weather, and allows moro advantageous use to be made of the pasture during tho summer, as growth is resumed before tho dry period.
