DEVELOPMENT OF LAND.

PROSPECTS IN THE NORTH. NORTHERN WAIROA BRANCH. At the weekly executive meeting of the New Zealand Land Settlement, and Development League, it was reported by the secretary, Mr. N. G. Cribble, that, following a representative meeting at Dargaville, it. was decided to form a branch of the league in Northern Wairoa. Mr. Gribble said he had laid down certain lines in connection with improvement, operations this year as follows: —First, obtaining details of suitable Crown land areas in the district which could bo improved under the league's schemes; second, securing details of other unimproved holdings and thoso which had been slightly improved; third, tho selection of a local advisory committee. "I am more than ever convinced of the potentialities of the settlement of tho North Auckland district, and figures given to mo prove conclusively that tho opportunities there aro tremendous," Mr. Gribble said. " I have it oil very good authority, and confirmed on all hands, that one area of 80 acres in that district carried 100 milkers, and another of 200 acres milked 130 cows last year. In February and March another 100 big cattle had to bo put on to clean it up."

.Mr. Gribblc said ho was convinced that a vigorous policy in providing main outlets for a proper system of unwatering the Meh land in the district would, if properly carried out, he one of the most valuable activities and would return 100 per cent, on wiso expenditure, lie considered it of the utmost importance that the league should carry out the proposals. Tho following officers had been elected at tho Dargavillo branch: —President, the Mayor, Mr. F. A. Jones; vice-presidents, M< issrs. It. A. Lewis and P. llillsj executive, Messrs. A. E. Harding, C. W. Frost, J- H. Stubbs, W. A. Morgan. \V. A. Beattio, J. (!. Wilson and O. Williams; lion, secretary, Mr. B. S. Angus.
