VERDICT AT THE INQUEST.

CIGARETTE SMOKER'S EVIDENCE

(Received July 18. *1.115 p.m.) SYDNKY, July 18,

Ail inquest was held to-day concerning the deaths of Mrs. and Miss Miller, the victims of the fire in Vauxhall Chambers, Sydney, on Juno 13.

The chief witness was Edward Peach, commission agent, an occupant of an office on tho fourth floor, where tho lire originated and spread to the caretaker's quarters above. Peach admitted being a heavy smoker of cigarettes and that he (•brew butts on the floor. Some of his goods were composed of celluloid.

The coroner returned a verdict of accidental death. He added that the circumstances were gravely suspicious, but there was nothing definite against any person.
