SHUNTER LOSES LIFE.

KNOCKED DOWN BY TRUCK.

A shocking accident took place in the Timaru railway yards this afternoon shortly after two o'clock, which resulted in the death of a shunter, John Ewarfc Milne, a married man, with three young children, who lived in Market Street, Watlington It is believed that deceased was engaged in shunting operations at the time, and that he stepped behind two trucks for the purpose of lifting the couplings. His left fool apparently became jammed between tho points, and his leg was completely severed just below the knee. 'I ho right wheel of tho truck immediately behind passed over him, and dragged him along the rails. He received internal injuries from which he died in the hospital shortly after 4.30 p.m. Mr. Milne had been employed as a shunter at Timaru for some years.
