CONFERENCE OF MAORIS.
GATHERING AT WAITARA. CANDIDATE FOR PARLIAMENT. fllY TW.EGItAI.MI. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] NEW PLYMOUTH. Friday. Leading men of various Maori tribes in Taranaki are at present gathered at Manukorihi Pa, Waitara, to discuss a number of matters of importance to the tribes, the main one being the question of the successor to the late Sir Maui Poinare as the representative of the Western Maori electorate. As the electorate includes Waikato districts and the Wellington Province, a number of conferences wil' be necessary before candidates are selected. This morning, relatives and supporters of the. late Sir Maui arrived from Wellington. The conferences are expected to last for sumo time.
