Tho ex-jockey F. Corleft. of Marlon, has been recommended by tho Marton .Tockey Club committee for a trainer's licenco. Amorist suffered no ill-effects from his unfortunate mishap nl Trentham, and it iB intendeil to produce him in tho Longbeaeh Uurdlc3 at the Cliristchurch Hunt meeting. Radiato knocked tlio kneo of his troublesomo leg on the last day at Trentham and has done no strenuous work since. His preparation for his forthcoming engagements will thus linvo ii serious interruption. Tho Hiccarton trainer F. P. Clnridrre is at piesent laid aside with a severe attack of influenza and, according to advice from Cliristchurch yesterday, was unable to go lo tho Vi'aimate meeting with Troilus. Tho first of the visiting horses for the Grand National meeting next month have arrived at Tliccarlon. These are the three brothers, Paris, Apache and Taramoa. v.-lio went down i'loiji Trentham during tho week. The name United has been chosen for the rising two-year-old gelding by Aero from Lucenn, who is being trained at Ellorslie by I). Morashan. United is one of tho biggest of his age at headquarters nnd is making favourable progress on tho work ho in being allotted. Tho rising lwo-yenr-o!d Tho Qtiorn, by Hunting Kong from Flagship, who was originally intended to accompany T. Lloyd's team to Sydney, has been eased up owing lo growing too fast, and it is not intended to ask him to race until the new season is well advanced. Without being required to do anything very strenuous Lady Court is being kept going steadily nnd promises to he in good shape for spring racing. This filly's win at Avondale ill the autumn was moro meritorious than generally believed, and, although on tho email side, oho aliould pay her way next season. A. E. Nerile, of Bulls, continues to bo out of luck with his team. Elysianor is to have a long spoil and it is considered doubtful whether Opu, who broke down nt Trout hum, will race again. Tho ex-Auck-lancler Nippy is making satisfactory progress in his education as a jumper. Advice from Wnngnnui stales that Arisns, who disappointed nt Trentham, is being given a brief respite. Fernden is doing well and should extend his winning record early in tho new season. Star Area, who is top weight. O.KI. with Paddon in thu Clifford Handicap at Manawatu, is carrying a healthy appearance. Deforo tho winter meeting nt Ellerslio Sir Archio was galloping nnd schooling nttractively, but he failed to show any dr.sh at tho meeting. When he fell in the Penrose Hurdles ho appeared to bo rather badly hurt, but he has thrown oil tho trouble and is again working under F. Stenning. How-' ever, no matter how well he might work in future, it is unlikely that local sportsmen will ngain entrust Sir Archio with much confidence. '
