DEAN INGE KNIGHTED.

ROYAL VICTORIAN ORDER.

TITLE NOT TO BE USED.

(Received Juno '<io, 6.5 p.m.)

LONDON, June 20,

On tho occasion of the restoration and reopening of St. Paul's Cathedral His Majesty has appointed tho Very Rev. William Inge, Dean of St. Paul's, to be a Knight Commander of tho Royal Victorian Order. Canon Sidney Alexander has been appointed a Commander of the Royal Victorian Order.

Although a knighthood has been conferred on him Dr. Ingo will not receive the title of Sir or the accolade at tho hands of the King.

Church tradition is against a cleric's assuming a title of knighthood, although other titles are permissible. As Dr. Inge was 70 on June 6 it is unlikely that he will, lament the ball. EIo is too deeply engagod in a fierce controversy on phases of modern life.
