FLYING COOK STRAIT.
RULES FOR AIRCRAFT.
SYSTEM OF SIGNALLING
[nv TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION. j WELLINGTON, Monday.
Further regulations governing the crossing of Cook Strait by aircraft are now in operation, and an amendment to the notico to airmen issued a few months ago dealing with this matter has now been issued by the Director of Air Scr vices. Machines proceeding along the west coast of the North Island and not wishing to pass over or land at Rongotai must circle over the Paekakariki railway station until given the all clear signal, which will bo a white cross placed on the ground at the centre of the north platform, between the station building and the north signal box. " This signal does not mean that the weather ahead is favourable." states thf> notice, "but merely indicates that the, passing of the aeroplane has been noted, as proceeding to cross the straits or having crossed them. Pilots will also ensure that they advise their point of departure as soon as they arrive at their destination."
Under tho previous regulations telephonic or folographic communication had to he made to tho Woodhourne aerodrome at Blenheim for machines proceeding south, and to Rongotai for those proceeding north. Arrival at these stations had to he confirmed hv the same medium. If pilots did not wish to land at either of these prounds the fact had to he stated in the telegram and the all clear signal would be given from the aerodrome before they were Mermitted to continue their trip. While not affecting the rule regarding the Woodr-ourno aerodrome, 'he new notice makes the visit to Rongotai optional instead of compulsory.
