Fifteen hundred Communists, including a number of unemployed seamen, negroes, Chinese, and Hindus, inflamed . by addresses and a figlih between left and right wing speakers, attempted to march up from tho Battery Park to tho British Cons-iiato to protest against British rulo in India. The demonstrators were met by police reserves and a pitched battle ensued. Three policemen were injured and five of the Communists wero badly burnt with police batons Several arrests were made and tho demonstrators were dispersed.
