COALMINERS' HOURS.
CONVENTION REJECTED. GENEVA LABOUR CONFERENCE. (Received Juno 29, 5.15 p.m.) GENEVA, June 28. The International Labour Conference by a final vote rejected the draft convention for hours in coal mines, which had been fixed &t 7jJ hours, bank to bank. New Zealand had opposed it. The resolution was actually carried by 70 votes to 40, but it was necessary to have p. two-thirds majority, which was lacking by three votes. The German Government delegates proposed replacing the subject on the agenda for the meeting in 1933. Thereupon Mr. E. Shinwell (Britain) asserted that the responsibility for tho failure to adopt tho convention rested entirely with tho German Government's representatives, who had abstained from voting today after giving a favourable vote on Thursday. Tho conference passed a resolution, by 84 votes to 21, in favour of an annual paid holiday for workers
