GAMING LAW BREACH.
CHARGE AGAINST CLERK. FINE OF £IOO IMPOSED. For using premises at 25, Swanson Chambers as a common gaming house, a fino of £IOO was imposed on Frederick James Dryland, aged 28, clerk, by Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M.| in the Police Court on Saturday. ' Evidence was given that a number of bets at the Te Awamutu races' were taken at the office over ilio telephone by De-tective-Sergeant McHugh on Saturday morning. Accompanied by Detective Naldor ho raided tho premises and arrested Dryland, who pleaded guilty. Chief-Detective Hammond said a large quantity of betting material was seized at the office. Accused had been twice convicted in 1929 and fined £lO and £25 on gaming charges. Ho was not the principal of the firm. The magistrate allowed accused until to-day to pay the fine. s • -<:
