BIRKENHEAD BAND.
THE ANNUAL MEETING.
The annual meeting of members and supporters of the Birkenhead Borough. Band was welt attended. The Mayor, Mr* J. P. McPhail, who presided, cancratulated the bandsmen on their progress. The report stated that the strength was now 24 players, with three learning: members. The 28 instruments • were in good condition. The conductor, Lieutenant J. T. Lighten, stated that a trial programme was to be given at IYA. with a view to a 12 months' engagement. The band is to enter for the B and C grade competitions in Wellington. The following officers were ' elected Patrons, Messrs. J. P. McPhail and J". C. Yeomans; vice-patrqns, Dr. R. G. Dndding, Dr. J. W. Craven, Messrs. W* ,* B. Darlow, C. E. Campbell, and R. E. ! Stott; secretary, Mr. V, F. Queenin;, treasurer, Mr. P. J. McGovern; librarian, Mr. B. Sapsworth; auditor, Mr. N. J. Stewart; executive. Messrs. H. IL Havman, A. G. Jasper, G. B. Hewson (representing the Borough Council), J; MacDonald, E. P. Lanigan (representing honorary members), A Stott, G. A. Huddleston, F. Pugh and E. Swindail (representing the bandsmen).
