PARKING OF CARS.
REVISED TIME-LIMITS.
BY-LAW TO BE CHANGED.
OPERATION NEXT YEAR. As a sequel to the Auckland City Conncil's derision three weeks ago to prohibit all-day parking of motor-cars in the city area from January 1 nest, the council has now decided to adopt revised by-laws concerning vehicles left unattended, the by'laws to operate from January L A draft of the new by-laws was presented by the Legal and By-laws Commietee to the council. The committee had framed them after consultation with representatives of the Auckland Automobile Association and the Auckland Chamber of Commerce.
Xcw lists of streets and portions of streets in which parking was to be either prohibited or confined within certain hours formed nearly the whole of tha draft. There were four list, 3, covering:— (1) Parking prohibited by day and night; (2) ten minutes' day parking, 30 minutes' night parking; (3) 10 minutes' day packing, night parking unrestricted; (4) 2Q minutes' day parking, night parking unrestricted. "Day" was defined as from 3 a.m. to 6 p.m. The iist for class (1) was as Queen Street, western side, for 100 ft. south from Customs Street West; Durham Street East; Swanson Street, from Queen Street to Albert Street: Mills Dane; Symonds Street, on the eastern side, from Grafton Bridge to St. Martin's, Lane; O'Connell Street, western side; Vulcan Lane, from O'Connell Street to High Street; Kitchener Place, on the southern side of the low-level portion, off Lorrfe Street; Point Chevalier Road, from Joan Street northwards; privata roadway between Market Lane and Sturdee Street. The prohibition of parking also covered areas specially defined by marked discs and all stands set apart for tasicabs, buses and vans.
Class (2) comprised the western side of Queen Street, from Quay Street to Myers Street, except the class (1) portion already mentioned; the eastern side, from Quay Street to Wakefield Street; Earangahape Road, from Symonds Street to Howe Street.
Class (3) comprised 26 streets and portions thereof, including the following:—• Quay Street, from Breakwater Road to Albert Street, on the northern side; Customs Street, east and west, on. tha northern side, fram Gore Street to Albert Street; Fort Street, on the northern side; Chancery Street; Albert Street, on' the eastern side, from Customs Street West to Wellesley Street West; High Street, on the eastern side; Vulcan Lane, from Queen Street to High Street; Market Place; Market Lane; Shortland Street, on the southern side and on the northern sida from Queen Street to the premises of tha Auckland Club.
Class (4), comprising 20 streets and portions, included the following;— Customs Street East and West, on tha southern side, from Gore Street to Albert Street; Gore Street; Commerce Street, on the western side; O'Connell Street, on tha eastern side; High Street, on the western side; Quay Street, on the southern side, from Breakwater Road to Albert Street; Fort Street, on the southern side; Shortland Street, on the northern side, from the premises of the Auckland Club to Princes Street; Wvndham Street; Symcnda Street, on the western side, from Karangahape Road to City Road, and on Both the western and eastern sides, from East Street to the junction of New -North Road and Mount Eden Road.
It was provided that the restrictions should not apply to persona leaving their vehicles unattended while engaged, bonafide, in the receipt or delivery of goods in the ordinary course of trade cr business.
