FUSS ABOUT FIVEPENCE.
PARISH COUNCIL'S CONSOLS. 1 The village of West Torrington, Lincolnshire, recenly received tho dividend on a holding in Consols, and the interest was paid to the local Board of Guardians. But as the has been abolished tho Parish Council, until lately, received the cheque through the County Council, and had to send it to Market Rasen, five miles away, to be cashed. Tho Parish Council lids now been informed that in future the interest will be paid by the Bank of England direct. But before it is paid the Chancellor of the Exchequer deducts his income tax. It only remains to say that the interest amounts to fivepence a quarter, of which the Chancellor takes one penny.!
