CANCER RESEARCH FUND.
CAMPAIGN IN AUGUST. OUTLINE OF ARRANGEMENTS. A decision to launch the cancer research fund campaign in August ;for a period of about two months and to canvass for subscriptions as early as possible was reached at a meeting yesterday of the Auckland division of the 'British Empire Cancer Campaign Society. Mr. K. Mackenzie presided. The following recommendations of the collection sub-committee were adopted:— rfThat the newspapers be asked to open subscription lists in August, that appeals be made by speakers to rotary clubs, chambers of commerce and various business associations; that all local bodies in the Auckland province, racing clubs and sports societies be circularised; that subscription lists be sent to all business houses and factories. It was also resolved that the co-opera-tion of the Interhouse Girls' Association, Girl Guides and Boy Scouts' organisations and women's associations be sought. JThe question of a street collection would also be considered. It was suggested that addresses should be given at schools not so much with the vie\y of collections, but for educating the, young in the menace of cancer. Each phase of the .work was allocated to individual members of the general committee. > The meeting decided to ask the Hamilton and Rotorua Rotary Clubs to sponsor the appeal. The committee decided to request the Mayor of Rotorua to convene a public meeting at which Dr. K. MacCormick would speak. Dr. MacCormick, °it was stated, would address the next meeting of the Rotorua Rotary Club.
