Lady Mitchelson and Mrs. Roy Wilson left last evening for Wellington. Mrs. M. M. Simpson, of Wadestown, Wellington, is visiting Auckland. Mrs. Lan Roy Ims returned to New Plymouth from a visit to Auckland. Mrs. C. R. Birchall has returned to Cheltenham after spending a holiday in the Waikato. Mrs.' Drayton Blanfield, of Wellington, is visiting Auckland and is staying at Hotel Cargcn. Mrs. Troughton Clarke, of Rotorua, is visiting Auckland and is staying at the Grand Hotel. Mrs. Charters, of Whangarei, is visiting Auckland on her return from a visit to her son at Pukekohe. Mrs. W. P. Endean, of Paraoll, loft last evening for Wellington to attend the opening of Parliament. Miss Marshall, who has been visiting Wanganui, has left for Auckland, where sho will spend six woeks before sailing for Rhodesia. Miss Hull, director of free kindergartens in Christchurch, will be a delegate to tho Pan-Pacific Conference to be held in Honolulu in August. Mrs. C, 0. Best, of Kedah, Malaya, is returning to Auckland with her small daughter for a visit to her mother, Mrs. G. Mcßride, of Gladstone Road, Mount Albert. Mrs. Best will arrive in July. Miss Yerbury, who was in Auckland some months ago on deputation work for tho Heart of Africa and World-Wide Evangelisation Crusado is returning to New Zealand by tho Aorangi from Australia and while in Auckland will be the guest of Mrs. John Cook, of Ashley, Mount Eden. Mrs. J. Ellis, a mcmbor of tha Avondalo Croquet Club, who is leaving the district, was tho guest of honour at a farewell card afternoon held on Saturday. Good wishes were expressed for her future and regret at her departure. The winners at cards were:—Mrs. Wilson, 1; hidden number, Mrs. McConnell; consolation, Mrs. H. Potter.

A dance was held last evening at St. Michaol's Hall at Belmont, in aid of the Bolmont Senior Boys' Club. Members of tho committeo were:—Miss V. Blackwoll, Miss U. Harris, Miss M. Blatch, Miss G. Piggott, Mr. C. Eaton, Mr. W. Sharp, Mr. M Dixon, Mr. S. Thompson, Mr. N. Piggott and Mr. L. Amodoo. Mrs. Eaton, Mrs. Blackwell and Mrs. Sharpe served the supper.

The art of whistling may bo learned at the Agnes Woodward School of Artistic Whistling 'n Los Ange'es, Califs. ma. It whs Miss Agnes Woodward who organised the famoti3 bird-whistling chorus in America. Thirty young women whistlers comprise the chorus, which has tho distinction of being tho only one of its kind in the world.

Betweon 50 and 60 members were present at the monthly meoting of the Devonport League of Mothers, held yesterday at tho Masonic Hall. Mrs. G. Budd pre sided. An instructive address was given by Mrs. M. Miller, of Dovonport, on the training of children and a number of now and practical ideas wero mentioned which will be of great help in the care and training of children. During the afternoon songs were sung by Mrs. Barlow, which were very much appreciated. The ladies' committeo served tea at the conclusion of tho afternoon.

At a time when the oyes of the wqrld are turned toward Australia, following a woman pioneer who has blazed tho trail of the air for her sex to follow, it is an interesting coincidonco that the women of Melbourne havo been showing keen interest in tho early pioneer women who made settlement in Australia possible. The suggestion that in five years' time, when tho centenary of the founding of the city of Melbourno is celebrated, the lives of the women pioneers shall be commemorated in suitable form, has been enthusiastically received.

A dance organised by tho Devonport' sub-branch of tho Navy League was held at tho Navy League Hall last evening. Yollow and blue streamers wero hung from tho ceiling and across tho walls and bowls of arum lilies were placed at inter vals about the entrance and hall. Supper was served by tho ladies' committee, who comprised Mrs. Cleland Pottio, president; Mrs. Melvin, secretary: Mrs. Palmer, Mrs. Cleal, Mrs. Stokes, Mis* Melville, Miss Doris Cleland, Miss Woods, Miss Johnston, Miss Wyatt, Miss Bertrand, Miss Parker, Miss Tatton, Miss Spraggon and Miss Redmond.
