Thre three-year-old Ranelagn, woo die 201. commence racing until this season, registered bis fifth win when be prevailed fct T-irxm oil Saturday, his urst stake money amoanting to £660, which has derated bin: from back company- In addition to this record. Eanelagh occupied second piaca on seven occasions, bringing liis tots* earnings to i? 25. Lord Ranald -ras nominated for the stesplecnase at tne A.shburton tns. b—t owing to tbe shortness of his preparation, bis name was withdrawn before tbe nandi caps were dealt with. Gay Jim. who would probably have won tbe Hack Steep lechanse at Timaru on tie first car. but for breaking down at a critical stage, is act likely to be seen cut again this winter. Tbe two imported stallions. Valkyrian and Rosencr, who hare been previously stationed at VTannate and Gran respectively, will ce established in tne Riccartcn district curing the coming season. Pa;uito has been reccrumissioned and ■snll re-enter upon a preparation with a view to anotner trip to Sydney wrtn IF. D. Jones' team, which is expected to leave Wellington on July -25. Aberfeldy sweated freely before going out to contest the hurdle race at Timara on Saturday, and again ran a patchy race. Ee dees not, by any means, seem right just at present, and appears to have lost all confidence m bis jumping since ne fell at Riccartoa in Aprtl 4ast. Toawai need not be condemned for his two failures at Wasbdyke. On both da~3 he wa3 badly favoured during the running, and on Saturday was asked to tackle almost impossible positions at —ariczxs stages of his race, and his failure to take pari in the finish was net surprising aider the circumstances. Royal Mint is evidently on the rc3d to regaining the attractive form which characterised bis racing in tbe North Island a couple of seasons bach. He was uniucky m having his race before the weatner broke at Timaru on Saturday, as galloping in mud is considered to be his long suit.
