OBITUARY.
Ml!. JOSEPH TOWN LEY. The death of Mi-. Joseph Tdwnley, aged fji:!. occurred at his residence, 23, Union Street, yesterday. Air. Townley arrived at Auckland from England by tho ship JJlncjaeket in 1860 and eight years later war. married to Miss Harriott Little. 1 hiring tho Maori Wars Mr. Townley saw service as a member of the militia and later took part, in the rush to the Thames goldfields. Coming to Auckland, Mr. Townley followed his trade as a builder, but 43 years ago was compelled to retire owing to injuries received in nn accident. He was then employed as an inspector by tho City Council, retiring from the position four years ago. Mr. Townley was a prominent member of tho Manchester Unity Oddfellows and for 34 years was treasurer of the Loyal Good Intent Lodge.
MR. F. W. BEECIIEY. [BY TELEGRAPH■ —Oj\VN CORRESPONDENT.] TAUMAIIUNUI, Monday. The death occurred on Saturday of Mr. Frederick William Heechev, aged 68 Years, a. well-known settler of K.iii ieke. Mr. Becchey was born at Governor's Hay, Canterbury, and when 15 or 16 years of age canio with his parents to ilawora. lie took an active part, in Rugby football and was later a Taranaki representative. .Mr. Beechev commenced farming near Taihape, but 21 years ago came to Kaitieke. Ho entered actively into local polities and took n leading part in urging the formation of tho new county of Kaitieke. Mr. Beechev was also ono of the founders of tho Kaitieke Dairy Company, and ho was chairman for so mo years, lie was tho first president of tho Kaitieke Collio Club. Although over military age at tho time of the war, Mr. Beechev enlisted, and served at Samoa for 18 months on garrison duty Mrs. Beechcy died a few months ago at Tauranga, and I here are one son and two daughters surviving. MR. 11. ABRAHAM. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] NEW PLYMOUTH, Monday. Tho death occurred at Stratford yesterday of Mr. Harold Abraham, aged 43, manager of the Stratford branch of Messrs. Newton King, Limited. Mr. Abraham, who was appointed manager at Stratford in 1912, had been a director of tho company for 10 years. From the inception of the rural credit, scheme, he had been a member of the Taranaki Hoard, and had been closely associated with tho Stratford Racing Club, tho Stratford Club, and tho Stratford Golf Club. Mr. Abraham married a daughter of tho late Sir John Denniston, and thero aro four daughters and ono son.
MR. W. 11. CLARIS. [P.Y TKI.KGRAI'H. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] NIOW PLYMOUTH, Monday. A very old resident of South Taranaki, Mr William Holman Claris, died recently at the ago of 84 years. Born in London, Mr. Claris emigrated in 1892 to Tasmania, where lie spent 15 months. He then sailed for New Zealand, arid came to Taranaki in 1894 to take up bush-land at To Kiri, wliero he farmed for 2,3 years. Ho retired to Hawera about twelve years ago, and lived there until his death. 110 is survived by his wife, four sons and three daughters.
