CLEANING OF DRAINS.
HAURAKI PLAINS TROUBLE. CAUSE OF BLOCKAGES. [BY TKI.EGRAPH- —OWN' CORRESPONDENT. ] TURUA, Monday. At the last meeting of the Hauraki ( rated Drainage Board the foreman reported that most contractors had satisfactorily completed contracts for cleaning drains. The work had been impeded by deposits of farm refuse in drains. The clerk mentioned that the board had been threatening for years to take action against settlers who emptied farm refuse into drains, but had failed to take action. Mr. <!. Williams explained that in many cases the trouble was due to the fact that cowsheds had been built near roads before the digging of drains. The board had legal power to deal with offenders and should exercise its authority.
