SCHOOL ANNIVERSARY.
CELEBRATIONS AT WAIHOU.
RECORD OF FIFTY YEARS.
[BI TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] TE AROHA, Monday.
Much interest is being shown by the settlers of Te Aroha in the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Waihou School, which will be held on Friday.
The names entered on the roll when the school opened on June 30, 1880, are as follows:—C. J. Parr (now Sir James Parr), Peter A. Swney, William James Swney, John Parr, James Finnigan, John Finnigan, William Finnigan, William Webb, Thomas Parks, Harriet Swney, Mary A. Parr, Ellen Parr, Eliza Swney and Mary Finnigan. Since that time over 1500 pupils have been taught at the school. The committee in charge of the celebrations is anxious that there shall be a largo attendance of former pupils at Waihou next week-end. The celebrations will begin on Friday with the playing of games by present-day pupils and a dinner to pupils who attended the school between 1830 and 1890. This will be followed by a children's fancy dress ball and a programme of old-time dances for adults.
