Roderick James Spiers, a nightwatchman employed by the Otago Harbour Board, was riding his motor-cycle down Albany Street shortly after nine o'clock on Saturday evening, and was just turning into tho main highway when ho was run into by a motor-car and killed almost instantaneously Dr. Harty was summoned but could only pronounce life to be extinct. Tho deceased was about 40 years of age and was married. A bootmaker, named Evans, residing at 170, Main North Road, was knocked down by a taxi yesterday afternoon and was removed to tho hospital at 12.45 p.m. in an unconscious condition and suffering from slight concussion. When their motor-car plunged off the road, rolled down a bank, and fell into a creek near Opunake this evening, Messrs. Frank Cousins and Frank Eddie, two employees of the Shell Company, wero seriously injured and admitted to the hospital. While a large number of motorists was returning from Rugby Park yesterday afternoon, a boy, who was cycling, Raymond Burrell, aged 15, of Rifle Range Road, Frankton, became involved in a collision with a motor-car in Victoria Street. Tho boy was knocked down and received a fracture of a bone in his right arm. He was taken to the Waikato Hospital. OAR AND LORRY COLLIDE. ONE DRIVER INJURED. [BY TELEGRAPH—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] NEW PLYMOUTH, Sunday. Practically the whole of tho right-hand side of a light car was torn out in a collision with a heavy motor-lorry at Hawera on Friday. The car was struck on the driver's side and tho force of the impact threw one of the doors some yards behind the car. The rear wheel of the lorry was damaged. The driver of the car, Mr. J. Attrill, had a miraculous escape, shock and cuts about the face being the extent of his injuries. ACCIDENTS IN THE CITY. COLLISION AT A CORNER. Severe internal injuries were received by a youth shortly after 4 o'clock on Saturday afternoon when the bicyclo he was riding collided with a motor-car at the corner of Green Street and New Streot, Ponsonby. He was thrown from his machine and a wheel of the car passed over him. He was admitted to the Auckland Hospital, where his condition was reported last evening to be serious. A boy, aged 10 years, Frank Robertson, whoso homo is at 523, Manukau Road, Epsom, was admitted to tho hospital on Saturday suffering from a compound fracturo of tho right leg, which he received when he was knocked down by a motor-car about 10 a.m. The boy was later stated to bo progressing favourably.
