DETROIT CRIMINALS.
KIDNAPPERS ARRESTED. VICTIMS BRUTALLY TORTURED. NEW YORK, Juno 20. Tho police at Detroit arrested five leaders of a gang of kidnappers who occupied a fine suburban residence. One man made a confession involving a high police official of Detroit and a leading attorney. This man alleges that tho gang had collected about £200,000 in three years. Stories of amazing torture were revealed by victims. When they were kidnapped they wero subjected to horrible cruelty. Their eyelashes wero pulled out, hot irons were held closo to their eyes and in several cases tho victims were trussed up to become targets for fancy shooting, the bullets grazing thenbodies.
After that treatment most of the victims were willing to sign letters imploring their relatives to pay up and not to tell.
