EXTRA RACE MEETING.

UNEMPLOYED RELIEF FUNDS.

AUCKLAND TROTTING PERMIT

APPROVAL BY GOVERNMENT.

TWO DAYS AT END OF AUGUST.

A special two days' trotting meeting in Auckland to raiso funds for unemployment relief has been authorised by tho Government. Mr. W. Wallace, chairman of tho Auckland Hospital Board, who returned on Saturday after a visit to Wellington to arrange tho meeting, brought back with him the following letter from tho Minister of Internal Affairs, tho Hon. P. A. de la Perielle:—

" In reply to your letter of May 27 and to your personal representations to mo, I have pleasure in advising you that Cabinet has approved the issue to the Auckland Trotting Club of a special twodays' totalisator trotting licence for tho purpose of raising funds for the relief of unemployed in Auckland, subject to tho following conditions:— " Stakes given not to exceed £2COO each day.

" Au audited balance-sheet to be submitted within 14 days of the close of the meeting. " The proceeds of the meeting, including tho taxes to be remitted, to be divided equally between the Auckland Hospital and Charitable Aid Board and tho Auckland City Council. Tho payments to the Auckland City Council to be expended in wages only. " The payments made to the Auckland Hospital and Charitable Aid Board and tho Auckland City Council will not carry with them any Government subsidy.

" I shall be glad to be advised as soon as possible whether the Auckland Trotting Club is agreeable to the above conditions."

Mr. J.- Rowe, president of the Auckland Trotting Club, stated on Saturday that his committee would neet immediately to consider the proposal. The tentative dates for the meeting were August 30 and September 1.

The one-day meeting held by the Auckland Trotting Club on August 31 last in aid of the earthquake relief fubds resulted in a net profit of £5061.
