MAKE MEMORIAL RACE.

LOCAL HORSES' TRIUMPH. REREMAI beats floret. LINKMAN BEST SOUTHERNER. ' Two Auckland horses in Reremai unci Florent, who were only moderately fancied, proved more than a match for the Southerners, who comprised half the field, in tho C. F. Hark Memorial Handicap, and they fought out an exciting finiflh for Reremai to gain the honours by a neck. Wagering on tho race was solid, and the favourites wore Logan's Pride, Linkman and Great • Peter. Vendome and Torpedo Huon wero slow away, Genuino running to the front quickly , from Great Peter, Plorent and Logan's Pride. These horses comprised tho leading division for moat of the way, and they wero 3 in close order at the head of a bunched field j; with a lap to go, when Reremai, Linkman, t Jewel Pointer and Sunshower were all right y U P- Four furlongs from home Great Peter ' began to go back and Reremai sprinted up to Genuino and Florent, to lead them round the home turn, with Jewel Pointer, , Logan's Pride and Linkman next. Reremai I stayed on in the straight to beat Florent, with Linkman half a length away third. Evelyn Locanda was fourth, succeeded by s Jewel Pointer, Genuino and Cardinal Logan. I Tho winner is partial to heavy going, and, i although she registered 4.26 2-5 in winning a few months ago, this must be accounted her best performance, for she defeated a better class field than she "had ever met previously. Florent also paced his best , race, and Linkman's effort under the condi- , tions was excellent. Evelyn Locanda apd Jewel Pointer registered good racoß, but Great Peter and Genuino both failed to stay on. Logan's Pride, >vho was outside two sulkies for most of the way, was right in t the picture to the turn, and then retired beaten. Cardinal Logan and Sunshower gave no trouble, although they wero close enough to have chances five furlongß from home. 1 HAROLD LOGAN'S SPEED. 3 EXHIBITION OF THE FIELD. 3 > COUNTRY KING GOES WELL. j The Canterbury representatives Harold " Logan and Country King made an exhibition • of the field in the Marconi Handicap, and whon they clapped the speed right on they cleared away from the others in a furlong, Harold Logan displaying great brilliancy to beat Country King easily. Nearly half the pool was invested on the dividend-payers, and Country King just had a alight call over Harold Logan, Uncle Bert broke up badly at the start, Richore, Benefice, Country King and Cornelian all beginning well, to bo tho leaders past the stands, where Harold Logan was a good way back on tho outside. With tbreo ' furlongs to go Harold Logan commenced a brilliant run on the outside and at the end of a mile had joined Country King in the 3 lead.. They were clear of Mountain Dell and } Great Ballin at the turn, and Harold Logan ? played with Country King over the last j furlong, to win pulling up. Mountain Dell, 3 finishing on fairly well, was three-parts of a j length away, third, and Woodvale fourth, j Next to finish wore Vecto, Great Ballin and Richore. Harold Logan's finishing effort was brilliant, and he is going to see a short price in the Adams Memorial Cup. Country King also paced splendidly, but he was not good enough .to go with the winner. Mountain Dell should bo improved by the race. GANG AWA' STAYS WELL. HOBSON HANDICAP VICTORY. GOOD EFFORT BY INVADER. The improving Gang Awa', who won the Cambridge Trotting Cup lost month, was again seen in a favourable light in winning the Hobson Handicap, for which Country King was a hot favourite, over twice as well backed as Invader, Gang Awa' being fourth choice at a . good price. Reliance broke at the start, otherwise the field went away well, Hostess and Country King taking up tho running from Dealer nnd Gang Awa'. When they came up the straight for the final lap tho field was very closely bunched with Country King and Hostess just showing out ahead of Dealer, Vecto. Invader, Brutus and Gang Awa'. Three furlongs from home Dealer left his feet and then there wos a decided change. Country King and Invader clearing away, with Gang Awa' in hot pursuit. Gang Awa' ranged up on tho outside at the turn, and sho stayed on to win by a length and a-half from Invader, while Country King, who tangled under pressure, was two and a-half lengths away, third. Warspite was next to finish, followed by Neeoro, Dealer and tirutus. Tho winner is a fine stayer and will roach better class next season. Invader and Country King paced splendid races, and Country King should do considerably better on firm ground. Warspito was closer at the finish than at any other stage, and Neeoro, who should bo better suited by. tho tighter class in the Adams' Meniorial Cup. gavo a pleasing display. GOOD FINISH IN SPRINT. 'STANMOOR'S RUN ON RAILS. Two moderately-backed horses in Stanmoor and Hal Chimes filled the dividend places in the Cornwall Handicap, which v. A3 productive of an exciting finish between the- placed horses. Wagering on the event was spirited, and Warplane was tho favourite, with a slight call over Wilma Dillon. Ngahuia went out smartly to make play early from Master Huia, Warplane, Hal Chimes, AVilma Dillon and Stanmoor. Master Huia lost his position when half the journey was covered, and tho leaders bunched up, Warplane going for tho rails and Hal Chimes moving up on tho outside. With two furlongs to go Stanmoor and Wilnia Dillon closed up, and an opening on the rails enabled Stanmoor to tako the lead at the turn from Hal Chimes, Warplano and Wilma Dillon (wide out). Stanmoor held his own in the run homo to win by three-parts of a length from Hal Chimes, Wilma Dillon being half-a-length away third. Warplane was two lengths back fourth, and then came Tho Abbey, Ngahuia and All 8011. A good run on the fence nnd ability to act well in the going contributed largely lo Stanmoor's success. Hal Chimes and Wilma Dillon both had to cover more ground than tho winner. Warplane was well placed to tho turn and then weakened badly. Carmol was a trifle slow away and gave no trouble, while Linkman skipped 1 and lost a good position early, afterwards showing a fine turn of 6peed. 1 KOLMAR AT HOME IN GOING. , i PROVINCIAL HANDICAP WIN. I i i Usually Kolmar is seen at his best when i the going is heavy, and he once again demonstrated hiß partiality for soft ground in winning the Provincial Handicap, for which he was a good fourth fanoy, those fetter backed being Home Voyage, Paradigm and Rangitero. After Roma Bingen broke and lost her handicap and Direct Action, tho early leader, put in a short break at tho end of t a furlong, thoy all settled down to trot g solidly. Marble Star and Direct Action having turns in the lead. Six furlongs from 1 homo, when Marble Star, Direct Action, t Kolmar and Audo Spray were tho leadors, r everything with tho exception of Roma I Bingen had a chanco. Then Kolmar drew (, away, to gain a lead of five lengths along t tho back, and ho lasted just long enough i to withstand a challenge from Paradigm t by a neck. Elome Voyage was two lengths f away third, with Audo Spray another head c back fourth. Next to finish wero Direct Action, Rangitero and Marble Star. . Kolmar never put a foot wrong and , Paradigm also went, very solidly. Homo d Voyage, who skipped in tho straight, trotted a well from the back mark, and would prob- w ably havo done better on a dry track. * Audo Spray was always plodding solidly, and Direct Action made Quite a respectable ' showing. *
