TAKAPUNA ROADS.

: gj rj —if your correspondent "Anothetf Torn Tyre" would only inquire at tlig Takapuna Borough Council offico he would find that most of the money recently spent at Bayswater has been taken out of Marina Terrace 10 per cent, loan and on account of that being an allocation the money could not be legally spent upon improving the main road. The Returned Sol-' diers' Association's donation of £34, whicli has been as usual subsidised by the council and Government, has been spent on Quin-< ton Park, but here again the returned men claim a say in the method of expend diture. A further amount of £IOO has been sanctioned by the council, myself alone objecting, and this expenditure i$ unwarranted. However, why does nolj your correspondent attend council meet* ings and protest against such waste? A! great mistake was made in the first plact* in accepting an unsuitable site for a park, as in. doing so the council is losing £7l' in rates annually. Later on it will be necessary to acquire a much larger area for a, children's playground at Bayswater- and for that reason tho existing scandalou.i waste of money should cease. the council is bent upon squandering hundreds oi pounds of the ratepayers' money upon something which no doubt will make an excellent refrigerator in winter, bulj never a park.
