GATE PA ENTRENCHMENTS.
PROPOSED RESTORATION. PLAN TO BE PREPARED. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] TAURANGA, Saturday. The committee concerned with the proposal for the restoration of the Gate Pa entrenchments have held a meeting with Bishop Williams and the Rev. A. F. Hall, Vicar of Tauranga, as representing St. George's Church, which stands on the site of Gate Pa. Mr. H. Mansel was also present, as representing residents of Gate Pa, and Mr. A. L. Faulkner, representing the Church of England vestry. The bishop said that before the matter could be considered by the Diocesan Board of Trustees the board would require a plan showing exactly what the committee wished to do on the church land. He felt sure that the board, of which he was chairman, would look sympathetically on the proposal to do something to mark the site. At the same time, it would be very anxious to conserve the rights of the church and to see that the people who in lived in the neighbourhood, many of whom had been largely interested in the erection of the church, were not aggrieved by what was being done.>
The committee resolved: That arrangements be made for the preparation of a plan of the proposed work on the church grounds, for submission to the diocesan trustees.
