CROWNING OF THE QUEEN. MONEY FOR RELIEF WORKS. [BY TEIVEGKArH. —OWN COIIItESPONBENT.] WAIHI, Friday. The campaign to raise funds for improvements to tHo town, and at tlio same time provide relief work for (lie unemployed of Wailii, was brought to a close last evening with the coronation of tho carnival queen, Miss Mary Carter (miners' candidate). Unfortunately, King's Hall, where the ceremony was held, was not' nearly largo enough _ to accommodate (hose seeking admission, hundreds heing turned away. For their benefit the crowning will be repeated this evening. Tlio function added £4O to tho fund, making the amount available with tho Government subsidy about £I4OO, exclusive of £IOO earmarked for relief works by tho Borough Council, on which there will also ho a subsidy. Jn order that no time may be lost iri providing works for the unemployed, tho borough engineer, Mr. M. F. Haszard, has drawn up a scheme of improvements nml will start a number of men in a few days.
