HUMAN REMAINS FOUND.
BODY BY WAIKATO RIVER.
DISCOVERY BY SURVEYOR, [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] PUTARURU, Thursday. Human remains, believed to be those of Mr. Jack Sainsbury, the Government survey cadet who was accidentally drowned in the Waikato River about 35 miles above Arapuni on December 17 last, were discovered last evening. Mr. M. St. J. Paxton, a surveyor, of Putaruru, while on an exploration trip, found tho remains in a very inaccessible spot by the river about eight miles below the scene of the fatality. On his return to Putaruru, ho reported the matter to the police, who are being taken to the spot to-day. It is expected that an inquest will bo held on Saturday. It was due to the lowering of the level of the' water in tho Arapuni Lake that the discovery was made possible. DISCOVERY IN OHRISTOHUROH. BONES BURIED FOR MANY YEARS. [BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] CHRISTCHUBCH, Thursday. A human skeleton was dug up by gardeners working in the Botanic Gardens to-day. If, waa in an excellent stale of preservation. The skeleton is probably that of a Maori and tho condition of the bones indicated that ifc had been buried for 100 years.
