About 100 persons wero asked by the committee to show why fees had not been paid, and 12 were present. Jn cases where no satisfactory explanation was forthcoming instructions were given to take proceedings to recover tho amount outstanding. Mr. W- Wallace, chairman of the board stated In - t evening that this w'ns f} le usual amount written off every sixmonths. Tho sum included the difference in fees paid by friendly societies. The board did not adopt a hard and fast rule in tho payment of fees, but it expected that every patient should pay according to his means. "The position is serious for the board," said Mr. Wallace. "It is necessary that a good proportion of the fees should he collected in order that the hoard's finances can be kept on a stable basis. Accordingly, full investigation is nyide in case;J where the full amount of tho fees is not forthcoming."
