BUSES IN QUEEN STREET.

PERMISSION AFTER 6 P.M. SEVERAL SERVICES AFFECTED. A number of bus companies, whose vehicles leave the city at Commerce Street and proceed to the suburbs via Lort, Street and Anzac Avenue, will in future be permitted to leavo from Sturdeo Street in the evenings and proceed up Queen Street. At vostcrday's meeting of the Transport Board, the secretary, Mr. W. St. J. Clarke, reported that a number of buses wero already doing this, although their licences forbado tho use of Queen Street. Mr. Clarke said he hail conferred on the matter with the, chief traffic inspector of tho City Council, Mr. (J. llogan, who was of tho* opinion that the Sturdeo Street stand was more suitable as a loading centre in tho evenings. On tho motion of tlio acting-chairman, Mr. G. Baildon, it was agreed to approve Sturdeo Street as a loading stand in tho evenings and notify the companies desiring to use it that application would have to bo made for an amendment of theil routes. "What is meant by the evening?" asked Mr. E. J. I'helan. "After 6 p.m.," answered Mr. Baildon. Mr. I'helan said that if tho traffic congestion was not to be made worse buses should certainly not go up Queen Street before 6 p.m. Mr. E. 11.
