SEVERAL CASES OF THEFT.

ARTICLES UNLAWFULLY SOLD.

Charged with the theft of a wristlet Watch, valued ;it £5 12s 6d, and a phonograph valued at £ll 12s 6d, the property of the Farmers' Trading Company, William Roberts, a labourer, aged 22, pleaded guilty when he appeared in the Police Court yesterday morning. Chief-Detectivo Hammond said accused had obtained the articles under a hirepurchase agreement, and had subsequently f,uld them. Accused waft placed on probation for two years and ordered to make restitution .of the amount of £ls 15s. Seen by a constable, walking along the street with a pair of new boots partially concealed under his coat., Alexander Angus Stewart, aged 74, was charged with the theft of the boots, which were valued at £l. He was sentenced to one month's imprisonment. As a result of a watch kept by the police <m a partly-constructed building, Edward Evans, aged 50, was charged with the (licit of timber, valued at ss.
