PROTECTION SOCIETY.
Tlio first' meeting of tiic financial year of tho Society for tlie Protection of Women and Children was held in the society's rooms yesterday afternoon. Although the preceding month had been much shortened by holidays, a great 'leal of work had been accomplished. it was reported that as well as those cases always before them the society had dealt with 19 new cases and redealt. with six former cases. Of these cases, 13 had to do with differences between husband arid wife; 1J were diverse and one con corned a child. There had been 293 oliiee interviews, 65 visits to six attendances at the Magistrates Court and threo attendances at the Children s Court ' , ... The Rev. \V .Jolhe was elected chair man for the ensuing year. Mr. A. J. Stratford, president, who had combined I lie offices of president and chairman, received a hearty vote of thanks Thf work of the society becomes increasingly varied and important and it does not' lock forward to any abatement of applications for help and advice during the winter. _____
