BRIGHT WRESTLING.

tUNDYN DEFEATS EBERT.

BOUT ends in fifth round

CLEAN, LIVELY EXHIBITION.

One of the cleanest and brightest exhibitions of wrestling seen at the Auckland fj-owri' Hall was provided last evening by [Alex Lundvn, champion of Finland, and J"red Ehert, champion of Austria, Lundvn won by 'wo falls to one. His falls v "pre secured in Iho second and fifth rounds, while Ebert's was awarded in the fourth round The attendance was not n p to that recorded on many occasions last year, hut the large number who attended thoroughly enjoyed the exhibitions riven by both contestants, and tho applause was frequent and impartial. Mi'. L Wilson was referee for both the professional and amateur contests, jind his decisions met with general ap-

proval. Lundyn weighed lost, and Ebert 13st. 131b. Elicit was under forfeit to make ] e ss than Mst,, and, as he weighed Isst. a week oi so previously, he had to reduce considerably in a brief space of timo. Even then ho did not look nearly so fit 8 s Lundyn. Ebert threw his opponent early with j;i arinloek and then had him on tho again twice in quick succession. A headlock provided the means of a further heavy throw for the Finn, who was next fastened in a scissors on the head. A body scissors and armlock had Lundyn gtruirqling violently. Ebert so far had had "matters practically his own way. Lundyn applied <i standing lcghold, but v.-hen he tried to convert it into a boston crab ho went flying through tho ropes. The pair were then on the mat for some time, ench having a toehold on the other.

First Fall Suddenly.

Lundyn rushed across tho ring when the gong went for the second round. Ebert tried to dodge, but was thrown to the mat and pinned with a headscissors and armbar within ten seconds of the opening. Ebert was clearly canght on the hop.

Lundyn again dashed at his opponent, •who. however, side-stepped and pushed the Finn through the ropes and off the stage. This earned him a round of hooting fiom the spectators. As soon as Lundyn clambered Lack into the ring ho ■was hustled from corner to coiner and against tho ropes. It was lively wrestling. A body scissors and armhold had Ebert in difficulties. Lundyn changed to a sitting toehold, from which Ebert freed himself and applied a full nelson and lody scissors. The Finn was jolted with a reverse headlock, and was then fastened in an armbar and head scissors, tho

gong relieving him. Lundyn was limping badly at the openjug of the fourth round, having injured his ankle. Ebert had him down with a body pres§, but a good escape was effected. A body scissors and armbar had the Finn in difficulties. He had no sooner freed himself than he was picked up with a crutch and body hold and dumped heavily to the mat. Ebert pounced on him and held his shoulders down.

With a fall apiece tho crowd looked for something out of the ordinary when round five commenced. Lundyn was thrown with an armlock and was then caught in a shortarm scissora. Lundyn struggled hard for sotne time before he escaped. The Austrian's next move was a body scissors, followed by a toehold. , Lundyn winced, with the pain, but, after making desperate attempts to crawl to the ropes, he suddenly sprang round and applied a step-over toehold, which quickly forced his opponent into submission. Amateur Preliminaries. Catch-weight.—C. Jones, Bst., drew with Kisha Bana, 7st 31b., a fall each. This was the brightest amateur bout. Both showed a good knowledge and plenty of action throughout. Kisha Bana crashed his opponent- to the mat in the second round, sitting on him and getting a fall. Jones equalised in a similar manner in tho third round. An extra round failed to give an extra fall. -

Feather-weight.—K. Brewer, Bst. 81b., beat S. Brewer, Bst. lib., by two straight falls. S. Brewer replaced A Webb, vvho is suffering from appendicitis. K. Brewer secured a fall in the opening round from a body press. The final fall was from another body press in the last round.

- Lig-it-weight.—W. Will iainson, 9st. 41b., :oeat McCowatf, 9st. 21b., on points. The first two rounds were even but slow The final round saw McCowatt working hard, but Williamson finished ahead on points.

Welter-weight.—J. McComish, lOst. 6jlb., beat J. M. Koran, lOst. 21b., by two tails McComish gained the first fall from an armbar and body press. The second jound opened very actively, but McComish quickly held his opponent to a lali from a body pres3. t fiddle-weight.— C. Naylor, lOst. 111b., beat W. Hyiatt, list., by two falls Naylor gained a submission fall early in the first round with a double armlock. In the second, after some active work, Naylor secured a fail from a body press.
