TEST OF AEROPLANE.
MACHINE FAILS TO RISE. EFFORTS AT WHANGAREL [by telegraph.—own correspondent.] WHANG AHEI, Monday. A largo crowd gathered at Kensington Park yesterday morning in tho hopo of seeing tho monoplane constructed in Whangarei lake tho air. Flying conditions were perfect. In preliminary tests tho engine did well, registering 2200 revolutions, whereas tho average cruising speed is 1800. Attempts to leavo tho ground, howover, were not. successful. For over an hour tho aeroplane taxied along tho ground in efforts to take off, but it did not rise. Tho trouble was attributed to a defect in the tail construction.
