Sir Hubert Wilkins and Mr. Simon Lake, an inventor who is co-operating with the explorer in connection with his coming trip to the Arctic, called upon the Acting-Secretary of the Navy, Mr. Jahncke, to inquire into the possibility of arranging for the loan of an obsolete submarine. However, tliey received littlo encouragement.
It was explained that under the London Naval Treaty the United States can only retain one obsolete submarine, and it was required for experimental purposes.
