LONG SKIRT CONTROVERSY.
A PERNICIOUS INVENTION.
Sir William Arbuthnofc Lane, the famous English surgeon says that " the long skirt is tho most pernicious thing invented for years. Tho nearer women's dress can approach to a state of nudity, having regard to treasonable decency, tho better it will bo for them. • "There is, of course, the consideration of climatic conditions, but I consider, tho present, fashion of knee-length skirts about the best compromise it is possible to conceive. There is no need to make them shorter, as women's knees are generally rather ugly, but the short skirls allows light and air to get to the skin, and tho benefit to health is inestimable."
