WOMEN'S INSTITUTE.

A'meeting of ladies interested in forming a women's institute at Taupiri was held in the Public Library on Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. Irwin, of Greenhithe, Auckland, gave a most interesting address upon the benefits of the society lo lonely country women. A working committee was elected as follows: —Miss Roskruge, chairwoman; Mrs. T. T. White, secretary and treasurer: Mesdames Clark, Williams, _ Smith, Soman, Waring, committee. Other ladies who formed the branch are Mesdames Tapper, Button, Dur bridge, Day, Volamere, Slater, Carbine, Sowerby, Plugge, Bentlv, Fulton, Matlueson. Findlay. Murphy, and Misses Button, Buss and Jones.

WIIAKATANE

The Whakatane Institute held its monthly meeting last Tuesday afternoon, Mrs. Buddie presiding. Arrangements were made for entertaining \isitors to the Bay of Plenty group conference, to be held in Whakatane next month. It was also decided that a delegate be sent, to the Dominion conference at Wellington in October. Musical items were given by Mrs. French and Mrs. N. Carter, and Mrs. Creigan gave an interesting demonstration on "scissors painting." The roll call was answered with recipes, which were for sale afterwards. The hostesses were Mes dames W. P. Gov/ and Bullcn.

'lho first month!;/ meeting of the Women's Institute was held this week in the Oddfellows' Hall. The president, Mrs. F. A Hoiking, spoke briefly of the objects of the movement and asked for the loyal support and co-operation of the members to cnsuie the success of the institute. After business was disposed of the meeting took the form of a social evening. Musical items were contributed by Mesdarnes Harvey, Gee and Steei (a member from Tuakati). while Mrs. Deed played two pianoforte solos. The accompanists.-. for the evening were Mesdarnes Gee, Sagaer and Deed. An interesting woolu ork demons* ration was given by Mrs. .Lewis, Dissident of the Tuakau Woman'?. Institute. A "road signs" com petition was won by Mrs. C. Cooper. Hostesses for the evening were Mesdarnes Hosking, Curd and O'Loughlin.
