FIGHT AT MEETING.
UNEMPLOYED MEN CHARGED.
THE AGGRESSOR FINED.
Charged with fighting in St. Matthew's Hall on May 2, George Lewis (Mr. Schramm) and John William Hughes (Mr. Smyth), pleaded not guilty in the Police Court yesterday, before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M. Chief-Detective Hammond said the fight occurred at St. Matthew's Hall, where for some reason tho unemployed had been meeting recently. Detect'vo Nalder said he attended a meeting of tho unemployed on May 2, when Hughes was in the chair. Lewis, an ex-chairman, was undoubtedly the aggressor, and a fight ensued. A fine of £1 and costs was imposed on Lewis, the charge against Hughes being dismissed.
