SERIOUS CLASHES WITH POLICE. (Received May 5, 10.53 p.m.) BRISBANE. May 5. A pitched battle in the streets of Brisbane to-day ended in the arrest of several unemployed. During the clashes the police made many baton charges. Boots and fists were used by the rioters. The occasion was a Labour Day procession. The unemployed formed themselves into a separate camp and became disorderly. They carried banners on which were offensive inscriptions and shouted: "Ivill the bosses army. The leaders of the unemployed also delivered fiery addresses in the vicinity of the Trades Hall. The police tried to disperse the mob and a melee ensued. Reinforcements of police arrived and arrested a number of the demonstrators amid hooting and jeering. Nobody was seriously hurt.
