ESCAPE FROM FLAMES.
FAMILY'S HURRIED EXIT. COUNTRY HOUSE DESTROYED. [BT TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] "WAIHI, Monday. A seven-roomed house at Waimata, Waihi Plains, occupied by Mr. W. J. Culpan, was destroyed by fire about halfpast two o'clock this morning. Practically nothing was saved. The fire had a strong hold before the occupants were awakened, and Mr. and Mrs. Culpan had only time to lift their lour children through a bedroom window and pick up a few articles of clothing before making their escape. The building was owned by Mr. John E. Harris, of Waikaremoana, and was insured with the New Zealand Office for £BOO and the furniture left in it by him for £2OO with the same company. Mr. Culpan, who was managing the farm on which the house stood, lost a piano, a sewing machine and other belongings., over which the New Zealand Office had issued a policy for £IOO.
