ROAD TO THE NORTH.
METALLING COMPLETED. AN ALL-WEATHER ROUTE, [IST TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. J WIIANG-AREI, Monday. For tho. first timo an all-weather metal road now. Jinks Whangarei with the Far North. Last Friday tho Public Works contractor spread tlio last load of metal near tlio Awaroa store, making the Wha-ngarei-Kaikoho connection complete. Hitherto motor-cars found it impossible? to travel through the gorge, and the only gateway to tho North in the winter was by way of tho Jordan deviation and Kawakawa. Tho latter routo is not to bo relied upon after heavy rain, especially when there is a likelihood of Hooding. Motorists will appreciate tho fact that they have now an assured highway to travel over. Two bridges in the gorge are unfinished, but tho approaches have been graded and offer no danger to the public.
