ORPHANS' CLUBS.
AUCKLAND OPENS SEASON.
The opening gathering of the 39th session of the Auckland Orphans' Club was held in Scots Hall, Symonds Street, on Saturday evening, and was largely attended. The president, Dr. C. E. Slaguire, presided. The guests included SlajorGeneral Sir George Richardson, president of the Auckland Returned Soldiers' Association ; Colonel G. F. C. Campbell, Auditor-General; the chairman, Sir. W. Wallace, and members of tho Auckland Hospital Board; and Sir. Arthur Towsey, the first conductor of the club's orchestra. Professor Maxwell Walker, a past president, and Sir. Bernard Schmidt, a foundation member, were elected life members, and were invested with tho gold badge by the chairman. Twenty-four new members were elected. TAKAPUNA ACTIVITIES. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The sixth session of the Takapuna Orphans' Club opened with a large attendance. The president, Sir. L. J. Sliuoguo, congratulated the club on its •sound financial position and on the increaso in membership. He pointed out that (he club was now taking an_ important part in the social life of Takapuna. The club has now an excellent orchestra, under Sir. Charles Wood, and its contributions to the programme were received with acclamation. Messrs. E. Snell, V. Elliott. E. Turner. Dr. T. do Clivo Lowe and Morris ("Cardo ) had to respond to repeated encores. 11 is anticipated that lack of room will necessitate tho club placing a limit to its membership.
