DEFENCE EXPENDITURE
AUSTRALIA TO REDUCE
CHECK ON EXTRAVAGANCE
CANBERRA, April JO,
The Federal Government has decided to reduce next, year's defence estimates by at least £500,000. It is claimed that the department has been conducted too extravagantly, and that larger havings can bo effected without affecting tho personnel.
Also tho Government intends to reduce the Air Force estimates by one-fifth. It is admitted that tho dismissals of one-third of tho officers and men is imminent.
