ESCAPE OF THE THIEVES
By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received April 10. 9.55 p.m.) SYDNEY, April 10.
The detectives who are investigating the drciinibtiinces of tho train robbery on Tuesday night near Glenbrook station, on the Bine Mountains railway, have formed certain conclusions. As a result they have closely questioned the train crew. The aspects of the case they cannot understand are: Why, immediately after tho bandits had leaped from the train the emergency brake was not applied, and how it camo about that tho robbers were not injured through jumping from the train when it was travelling at a speed of at least 28 miles an hour.
An all day search by the detectives in tho vicinity of Mudgeo failed to reveal a single clue. The tracks found yesterday had no connection with the bandits.
Tho amazing escape of the thieves is puzzling the police. The stolen mail-bag contained about £IB.OOO, but of that sum £13,500 was in cheques. These have been cancelled.
The police have engaged a black-tracker at the scene of tho outrage.
