TRAINING AT ADDINGTON.

JOLLY PET GOES WELL.

USEFUL WORK IN SADDLE.

[by telegraph.—own correspondent.]

CHRISTCHURCH, Thursday

The weather was almost perfect for training operations at Addington this morning, nnd the light shower of rain last evening had only the effect of laying the dust. The course was in great order. The best display of the morning was given by Jolly Pet (unhoppled) and Tom Thumb over a mile and a-half. Neither horse made a mistake and at the finish Jolly Pet appeared to be holding his companion safe. He is a fine worker without the hopples. Tom Thumb seems to be carrying plenty of condition and many not be at his best for the coming meeting.

Lingfield, Rey Logan, Maiwhariti and Concliff were companions in a spin over a mile nnd a-quarter, the last-named giving away starts up to 4Syds. Maiwhariti and Lingfield finished just ahead of Concliff, but the last-named had plenty in reserve. The time, 2.43 for the mile and a-quarter, was good.

Native Prince was hoppled and he went two miles in somewhat laboured style in fair time, while Avenger, Pro Rata and Cyone were almost on terms at the end of a mile and n-quarter, the last quarter-milo being run at a fast speed. Vendome (urjioppled), The Shrew and Peterwnh went a mile and n-lialf. Peterwah put in a bad skip after going two furlongs. After that all three moved in a pleasing style, the last mile being covered at a smart speed.

liaplander and Cußhla D'Or were worked in saddle, both horses showing great speed. They are engaged in the saddle even,t on tho opening day of the Easter meeting, and both will have to bo seriously considered.

The three-year-old Flying Prince, accompanied by Pointal in saddle, went a mile and a-hnlf very pleasingly until the last 50yds, when he tangled. He showed plenty of speed and is likely to bo well fancied for his engagement at Hororata on Saturday.

MR. BARTON'S TEAM. LEASE OF HINKLER ANNOUNCED. [BY TELEC.IUPH. —OW.V CORRESPONDENT. 1 CHRISTCHURCH. Thursday. Mr. G. .T. Barton recently decided to reduce his somewhat lengthy string under "W. J. Tomkinson's care. He has leased Hinkler to a patron of .T. .T. Kennerley's stable, whilo Veatas is now under tho care of V. Alborn. Early in his three-year-old career Hinkler showed great promise of developing into a. high-class racehorse, but after an unsuccessful trip to Sydney in quest of the New South Wales Derby he lost all form and was turned out for a spell. Only four years old, Hinkler should havo his best racing days before him. Vestas is n five-year-old gelding by Matchlight, with whose stock V. Alborn has been very successful. Vestas showed extreme speed as a two-year-old and was expected by many to win tho New Zealand Sapling Stakes. Ho became erratic in his behaviour and proved a big disappointment, but Alborn has only to get him to go right to win big money with him.
