SELECTIONS FROM KIPLING.
The concert chamber of the Town Hall was well filled evening when Mr. Alexander Watson, (he distinguished English elocutionist, submitted a varied selection of recitations. The first part of the programme comprised a series of items from Budvard Kipling, and included "The Sea and the Hills," "*lhe Explorer," "Gnnga Din." "The Bell Buoy," "The Ballad of the Bolivar" and "My Lord the Elephant." The wealth of expression, accurate interpretation and excellent diction which Mr. Watson imparted to Kipling's works were greatly appreciated by the audience, who were unstinted in their applause. Many of the items were of a humorous character and gave rise to much amusement. A miscellaneous collection of recitations was given in the second part of the programme, and included several old favourites. The selections wore "Sheltered" (S. Orrne Jewitt), "Mrs. J'oysor Has Her 'Say' Out" (George Eliot),
"Jmphm" (old Scottish) and "Conn Goes Hunting" (Boucicault). This afternoon a special matinee programme will be presented, including the Quarrel Scene from "Romeo and Juliet," an incident from "David Copperfield" and verse bv Kipling, Whitcomb Biley, Drinkwater, Barrio, A. A. Milne and Mark Twain. The fifth recital will be given tomorrow evening, when the principal items will be (he Forum Scene from "Julius Caesar" and excerpts from Masefield, Kipling. A. A. Milne, and Hilaire Belloc. The final recital will be on Monday evening.
